PatchWork 2.71: MIDI/Presets Navigation/SysEx & More!

Blue Cat’s PatchWork 2.71 is here! Let’s see what’s new in this free update, the 38th release in 11 years!

MIDI Clock & MTC Sync

The application can now be synchronized with other applications or MIDI devices using either MIDI Clock or Midi Timecode (MTC) or both! PatchWork can act either as a clock/ transport slave or a master or both at the same time.

It means that you can synchronize the tempo (bpm) with other applications and MIDI devices (MIDI Clock only), as well as synchronize transport (play/pause, position).

MTC has a much better resolution than MIDI clock but does it let you synchronize tempo. PatchWork lets you choose to use both at the same time and get the best of both worlds: when both are selected as sync source, PatchWork will use MIDI clock for the tempo and MIDI events sync, while MTC will be used for the precise synchronization of the timeline in samples.

It also means that you can now fully synchronize all instances of PatchWork running as realtime processing slaves on the network!

Another MIDI improvement for the app in this release is that it can now receive and send MIDI events even if no audio driver is selected.

Presets Navigation

Whether you are using MIDI or selecting presets in the user interface, the navigation has been greatly improved with this release, with a couple of new features:

  • A new option lets you choose to cycle next/previous preset commands in the current bank only (as opposed to moving across all available presets), either when using MIDI commands or just when navigating in the user interface.
  • It is easier to find where the current preset is located in the presets menu when using many folders: all folders and subfolders now have a check marl to show you the entire path to the current preset.
  • You can now show the current preset in its folder in the Finder (Mac) or Windows explorer from the presets menu.
  • You can now select next and previous banks with MIDI CC messages.
  • Just like for parameters already, PatchWork can now optionally send MIDI Bank Select and Program Change events when a preset is loaded from the user interface, to synchronize a MIDI controller or other instances of PatchWork connected via MIDI.

All these options are available directly from the presets menu.

SysEx Support

PatchWork now supports MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) events, either as a plug-in or application, in all formats. This lets you use MIDI devices and plug-ins that use SysEx as a mean of communication.

Warning: not all host applications support SysEx for all plug-in formats. Also some will only support SysEx as input for the plug-in but not as output.

Updated Miaow Wah Plug-In

The Built-in Miaow Wah plug-in has been updated, with a new LFO, updated graphics, the ability to select the color of the plug-in and new presets… It’s almost a brand new plug-in!

Fixes And More

And of course this new release comes with a bunch of bug fixes and other improvements. You will find the full list of enhancements in the change log here!

Extra

Wait, that’s not all…! The good news is that most of these new features are also already available for Axiom and Fader Hub as a preview… Check them out!
